Blue Abyss is creating the world’s foremost, extreme environment research, testing, development & training centres for the subsea, space defence and life science sectors.

Here in the West, there is a lack of large-scale facilities to provide controlled, simulated underwater oceanic conditions, to test technology, train operators and replicate the extreme conditions for the development of sub-sea technologies. In addition, globally, no commercial astronaut training facilities exist today to support the planned increase in human spaceflight, proposed commercial Space outposts and future lunar (and eventual Martian) missions. The current government facilities that do exist are now old and were never designed with this commercial future in mind.

The first Blue Abyss facility being built here in Cleveland will not only be the world’s first commercial astronaut training establishment but the most comprehensive, cross-sector, integrated research, testing, training and technology development facility of its kind. Currently, five more centres are planned.

The Council of International Programs USA is a nonprofit organization that promotes international understanding through professional development and cross-cultural exchange.
